She grows too free with her speech.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019ll be ready,\u201d I tell them, though my gaze is fixed on her.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think you should nail Amronov\u2019s wife,\u201d Vladak tells me with a smirk. \u201cAnd she\u2019ll make sure you get what you need.\u201d Calina tenses.<\/p>\n

I scowl at him, and no one laughs. Fucking the Prime Minister\u2019s wife is a good way of getting assassinated.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy not?\u201d Filip asks. Maksym sits with his arms crossed, and says nothing. He was the one that alerted me to the fact that Amaranov\u2019s wife asked for me, but he doesn\u2019t approve of this plan. I don\u2019t like it either. There\u2019s something unsettling about it.<\/p>\n

I watch Calina\u2019s knuckles whiten when she fists them in her lap.<\/p>\n

She heard the other men suggesting I sleep with Amronov\u2019s wife and she doesn\u2019t like it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have better means of getting what I want,\u201d I tell them and Calina has the gall to snort derisively.<\/p>\n

\u201cPerhaps she isn\u2019t sufficiently trained,\u201d I tell them, a clear warning to her.<\/p>\n

She lifts her face and juts out her chin. \u201cSufficiently trained?\u201d she snaps.<\/p>\n

The room grows quiet. My men expect her to obey me, and she\u2019s anything but obedient right now.<\/p>\n

\u201cEnough, Calina,\u201d I warn, but she doesn\u2019t heed my admonition.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d she says, her voice rising. \u201cMaybe you need to snap a metal collar around my neck. Take me for a walk so I can pee in your garden. Perhaps if you\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n

But she doesn\u2019t get any further. When I rise from my chair, panic flits across her features and she bites her lip. She knows she\u2019s in trouble. She knows she\u2019s crossed a line. What she doesn\u2019t know is how badly I want to punish her with an audience. How my cock aches with the knowledge of what she\u2019s pushed me to do. It seems last night\u2019s lesson didn\u2019t make the impact it should have. I shouldn\u2019t have given her the attention afterward. Or perhaps she simply needs a further demonstration.<\/p>\n

I take her firmly by the arm, yank her to standing, and haul her bodily over the table while my men watch in stoic silence. Papers flutter to the floor. No one says a word. None are amused. They know what\u2019s at stake.<\/p>\n

None even flinch when I slam my palm across her ass. They\u2019re an audience of soldiers who would lose respect for me if I didn\u2019t do just this. \u201cDemyan,\u201d she protests. \u201cPlease! I\u2019m sorry,\u201d But I ignore her complaints and push her flat across the table with a firm palm on her lower back. I crook a finger to Maksym, since he\u2019s the largest, strongest man in our company.<\/p>\n

With a scowl, he rises. Though Maksym has a tender spot, he knows what\u2019s on the line. He\u2019d be the first one to tell me to punish her, so when I give my order he doesn\u2019t flinch.<\/p>\n
