The tailor squawked as Dane pushed him aside, striding toward me in his underwear. He put his hands on the arms of my chair and leaned over me, his eyes on mine. I could see every inch of his naked skin. He glared at me.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI get it,\u201d he growled. \u201cYou\u2019re pushing me. It\u2019s what you do. Are you trying to see how far you can go?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

My voice came out breathy. God, I could smell him. \u201cI\u2019m not doing anything,\u201d I said, and we both knew it was a lie.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat do you want?\u201d Dane said, thick with frustration. \u201cDo you want me to say I\u2019m sorry?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

My hands went cold and my breath stopped. \u201cSorry for what?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou know what. Sorry for what I did the last time I saw you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He thought he had to apologize for that? As if <\/span>he<\/span><\/i> had done something wrong? Had he thought that all this time? I couldn\u2019t bear the idea. \u201cNo,\u201d I told him. \u201cDon\u2019t say you\u2019re sorry for that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He still watched me, his voice softening a little. \u201cI\u2019ll say it if you want me to.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t,\u201d I choked out. \u201cDon\u2019t.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

A muscle in his jaw twitched, and then he shook his head, backing off. \u201cCan I at least put my clothes on now?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t answer, and he didn\u2019t wait for it. He grabbed his clothes and shoes and put them under his arm. \u201cI\u2019m going to dress in the men\u2019s room,\u201d he growled. \u201cI\u2019d like some privacy for a second.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

I still couldn\u2019t speak. Dane walked away, and I downed the rest of the champagne in my glass, gulping it. He thought I wanted him to apologize. That fucking man.<\/span><\/p>\n

That brilliant, stupid, utterly infuriating man.<\/span><\/p>\n

I put my heels back on and stood up, looking at the suits and fabrics in the room. Now that the measurements were\u2014mostly\u2014done, I talked to the tailor about cuts, fabrics, and colors. Then my phone rang. Only after I hung up did I realize that Dane hadn\u2019t come out of the bathroom, which was around the corner and down the hall.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWould you like me to go find him?\u201d the tailor asked politely.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNo need,\u201d I said as suspicion bloomed in my gut. I walked around the corner myself, pushing open the door to the men\u2019s room. \u201cDane!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The room was empty.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFuck,\u201d I said as the tailor came in after me. I turned to him. \u201cIs there a back door?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He looked stunned. Most likely, none of his rich clients had ever made an escape while getting measured for a bespoke suit. \u201cAt the end of the hall,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFuck,\u201d I said again. I half-ran down the hall, moving as fast as I could in my three-inch heels. I slammed the back door open and saw nothing but parking lot.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dane was gone.<\/span><\/p>\n
